Prayer and Pastoral Care
They devoted themselves to the apostles'
teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to
prayer. Acts 2:42

Our rector regularly visits members in their homes or the hospital, to be a source of spiritual and pastoral support in times of need or crisis. In addition, there is pastoral care of members by each other in the Home Groups and on a spontaneous basis.
The Home Bound Ministry serves
those who are sick or otherwise unable to attend services regularly.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers share with the Rector in the ministry
by bringing Holy Communion to homebound persons and by sustaining
the contact of the congregation with them. The church has a multi-faceted
Prayer Ministry. Every Sunday, anyone desiring prayer for any
reason is invited to come into the Chapel after receiving Communion.
Many have experienced healing and comfort from this Prayer
Chapel ministry. . Also, a special time of Healing
Prayer is set aside during worship on the third Sunday
each month. In the Healing Prayer Ministry, members
of the congregation trained in healing prayer visit homes to pray
for those who request it -- whether members of Christ the King
or not. We offer a Healing Prayer Hotline (805-284-4042).
The Prayer Tree consists of volunteers who give
prayer support when needed in cases of serious illness, surgery,
or special trauma to a member of the community or a relative.
The Rector will also be alerted to the situation. The Sheltering
Arms Ministry responds to practical needs of our members
in time of emergency or crisis; on-going encouragement to seniors
and shut-ins who are facing more long term needs; encouragement
to members through comfort and consolation in challenging times;
and prayer for any members of the congregation who request it
during times of pastoral need. The Listening Hearts Discernment
process provides trained lay teams who provide confidential
support, prayer, and accountability for parishoners considering
a major life decision.
Every month we distribute Reconciliation
Bookmarks in the Sunday bulletins. (These also appear in the monthly Newsletter.) These focus our prayer
life on reconciliation in specific areas. Join us in praying for reconciliation!
